Here’s how the table is organized:
- Each row represents a moving company.
- Each column represents a moving industry association.
- A gold star in a certain cell means that mover is affiliated with that industry group.
- A red X means the mover has no affiliation with that group.
- Click on a mover’s name for its list of services offered, contact information, and map location on Google Maps (if available).
- Click on an association’s name for its membership criteria, history, and other relevant info.
“Why are industry affiliations important?”
Using a mover’s industry affiliations to guide your choice is a good idea for several reasons:
- Membership requires a mover to go through rigorous on-site checks, often including random inspections of moving trucks, loading equipment, warehouses and storage facilities, etc.
- These associations evaluate moving companies full-time, so they have expertise and industry knowledge that you and I lack.
- Many associations offer arbitration services for customers who have a dispute with movers, as long as the mover is affiliated with that association.*
- Unlike online customer testimonials, which are easy to fake, industry group affiliations are easy to authenticate directly with the association, just by checking their website.
Words Of Caution
If you’re moving to or from Dubai, or are looking for a moving company in the UAE, I believe that the table below can make your search easier. Movers who have taken the time to join industry associations have gone through a rigorous screening process, so they’re less likely to engage in unethical behavior that might jeopardize their standing with these groups. However, everyone’s move is different, and it’s important to exercise your own judgement when selecting a mover.
In particular, keep in mind that movers with few or no industry affiliations aren’t necessarily disreputable, and movers who are members of these groups probably do hundreds or thousands of moves per year and are bound to have some unhappy customers along the way. Think of this guide as you would the Michelin restaurant guide: one star is good, more is better.
*Note: these associations are not government agencies and they cannot compel a mover to pay any compensation or comply with an arbitration decision, but they can withdraw a mover’s membership if unethical behavior is found.
